Agents in Xcode,
in your notch.
Xcode 27’s coding assistant runs Claude, Codex and Antigravity with settings of its own. Gnista connects to them there too, so their chats get a row in the notch like any other session. Here’s how to set it up, what you can answer from the notch, and what stays in Xcode.
Updated
The short answer
Install Gnista and tick Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity. Their chats in Xcode show in your MacBook’s notch: amber while they work, red when they need you, green when they’re done. Connecting Codex trusts Gnista’s hooks for Xcode’s Codex too.
With Gnista
- Download Gnista and open it.
- Tick Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity. For each one you use in Xcode, Gnista adds its hooks to Xcode’s settings for it as well, after a backup. If you sign in to an agent in Xcode later, Gnista adds them the next time it starts.
- Start a chat in Xcode. Its row shows the project, the step it’s on, and its reply when it’s done. A click opens the project’s window with that chat selected (with Accessibility).
What you can answer from the notch
- Codex: Allow or Deny a command, with a reason if you like; a question with options; and a note, which Codex gets as your message and Xcode shows in the chat.
- Claude: a question with options. Gnista types your answer into Xcode’s own question panel, so that chat has to be open in Xcode, and Gnista needs Accessibility.
- Antigravity: its row shows when it asks you something. You answer in Xcode.
What stays in Xcode
- Xcode answers some requests itself: its own tools, and file changes in your project. Only what Xcode really asks you about, such as running a command, waits for you.
- Claude’s permission requests and plans, several questions at once, and any question whose chat isn’t open: answer them in Xcode. A click on the row takes you there.
- Notes to Claude: Xcode runs Claude in a way that can’t be woken with one.
Without Gnista
Xcode marks a chat that waits for you in its list of conversations. You see it when Xcode is in front, and it doesn’t tell you about chats in other windows or when you’re elsewhere.
Good to know
- Your agents in a terminal, and in Xcode, each get their own row: the same Gnista covers both.
- Disconnect an agent in Settings ▸ Agents, and Gnista’s hooks go from Xcode’s settings too.
