Amp,
in your notch.
Amp notifications and replies on your Mac
Gnista shows every Amp thread in your MacBook’s notch: working or done, the tool it’s on and its reply. When a turn ends, reply from the notch and it goes in as your next prompt.
Gnista with Amp, at a glance.
- Where it runs
- Amp’s CLI (
amp) in any terminal. - Setup
- One plugin file at
~/.config/amp/plugins/gnista.ts; nothing else changes. - Needs you
- No: Amp runs tools without asking first.
- Answer from the notch
- No: there’s nothing to answer, as Amp runs tools without asking first.
- Reply from the notch
- Yes, wherever Amp runs: Gnista’s plugin adds it as the thread’s next prompt, and Amp shows it as yours.
- In the row
- The thread’s title, your prompt, the tool it’s running, its reply when the turn ends, the model, context and tokens, read through
amp threads export. - Subagents
- Not yet.
- Cost and limits
- What Amp charged for the thread (
amp threads usage) and the credits you have left (amp usage).
A plugin, not a hook.
Amp has no command hooks, so Gnista adds a small plugin that Amp runs itself. It sends each turn’s start, each tool it ran and each turn’s end, with the thread’s title. It never answers for you, so it can’t undo another plugin’s choice.
One more thing? Reply.
Once a turn is done, write in the notch. Gnista’s plugin adds it to the thread as your next prompt, the same as typing it, in whichever terminal Amp runs.
Ends when Amp does.
The plugin tells Gnista which Amp it belongs to, so the row ends when you quit Amp, and a click finds its tab.
What it can’t do with Amp, and why.
- “Needs you” and answering from the notch: Amp runs tools without asking first, so there’s nothing to wait on or answer.
- The row doesn’t show Amp’s todos.
- Subagents don’t show on the row yet.
Connected in a minute.
- Open Gnista and tick Amp.
- Gnista writes one new file,
~/.config/amp/plugins/gnista.ts, and leaves your Amp config alone. If another plugin already has that name, Gnista stops and says so. - Start a new Amp session. One already open picks up the plugin when you restart it.
Amp, asked and answered.
Can I approve Amp from the notch?
No. Amp runs tools without asking first, so there’s nothing to approve.
Why doesn’t Amp ever show needs you?
Amp runs tools without asking first, so it doesn’t wait for you mid-turn. When a turn ends, the row shows done.
Can I reply to Amp from the notch?
Yes, once a turn is done. It goes in as the thread’s next prompt and shows in Amp as yours.
And without the plugin?
Gnista still sees Amp working by its process, but with no title, tool, reply or done.
How do I remove it?
Settings ▸ Agents ▸ Amp ▸ Disconnect deletes the plugin file; your Amp config is never touched.
