Droid,
in your notch.
Factory Droid notifications, permission approvals and credits on your Mac
Gnista shows every Droid session in your MacBook’s notch: working, done, or waiting for you. When Droid wants to run something, allow or deny it there, and see what each session cost in Factory’s credits.
Gnista with Droid, at a glance.
- Where it runs
- The Droid CLI in any terminal, and sessions in Factory’s desktop app.
- Setup
- Hooks in
~/.factory/hooks.json, after a backup; Droid asks you to trust the folder once. - Needs you
- Every call Droid would ask about, with the command or file, the moment it asks.
- Answer from the notch
- Allow or Deny, and Droid carries on; leave it, and Droid asks in its own prompt after 10 seconds.
- Reply from the notch
- Typed into its terminal: Terminal, iTerm, Ghostty, a tmux pane, or an editor’s terminal with Gnista’s extension.
- In the row
- The session’s title, your prompt, the reply, the tool it’s running and its todos as progress.
- Subagents
- Each Task Droid starts shows on its row, in the background too, and what a subagent asks comes to the same row.
- Cost and limits
- Tokens, context and the Factory credits the session cost, from Droid’s own record; no plan limits.
Allow. Deny. Keep going.
Gnista holds only the calls Droid itself would ask about, by Droid’s own autonomy rule, so everything else runs as before. Allow, and the command runs with no prompt in Droid. Deny, and Droid gets Gnista’s reason and says so. A script is answered as a whole, before it runs.
Every session, and what it cost.
Rows read Droid’s session record: the title, your prompt, the reply, the todos, the subagents, and the tokens, context and Factory credits each session used. A click lands in its terminal tab, or in that session in Factory’s app.
What it can’t do with Droid, and why.
- No Always: a hook can’t set one of Droid’s rules, so Allow is for this call only.
- Cost is in Factory’s credits, not dollars, and there are no plan limits: Droid fetches those while it runs and doesn’t keep them.
- Replies from the notch reach Droid only where Gnista can type them in: Terminal, iTerm, Ghostty, a tmux pane, or an editor’s terminal with Gnista’s extension.
- Droid runs Gnista’s hooks only in a folder you’ve trusted, and
droid execneeds a Factory subscription.
Connected in a minute.
- Open Gnista and tick Factory Droid.
- Gnista backs up and adds its hooks to
~/.factory/hooks.json, or to the hooks in~/.factory/settings.jsonwhen yours are there, so yours keep running. - Start Droid and trust the folder when it asks. It asks once per folder.
Droid, asked and answered.
Can I approve Droid from the notch?
Yes: Allow or Deny. With the notch closed, Gnista lets go after 10 seconds and Droid asks in its own prompt.
Why doesn’t Gnista show anything for Droid?
Droid runs hooks only in a folder you’ve trusted. Start Droid there and trust it when it asks.
Will Gnista ask about every tool Droid runs?
No. It holds only a call Droid would ask about at your autonomy level; the rest runs as usual.
Does it show what Droid costs?
Yes, in Factory’s credits, with tokens and context. No dollar price and no plan limits.
Does it work with Factory’s desktop app?
Yes. Its sessions show up like any other, and a click opens that session in the app.
How do I remove it?
Settings ▸ Agents ▸ Factory Droid ▸ Disconnect. Exactly Gnista’s hooks go.
